{"id":7016,"date":"2019-10-26T11:16:39","date_gmt":"2019-10-26T05:46:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/34.22.110.190\/english\/?p=7016"},"modified":"2021-01-05T03:10:55","modified_gmt":"2021-01-04T21:40:55","slug":"fine-and-imprisonment-for-unsafe-building-owners-in-kolkata-if-they-dont-carry-out-repair-demolition-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebengalstory.com\/english\/fine-and-imprisonment-for-unsafe-building-owners-in-kolkata-if-they-dont-carry-out-repair-demolition-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Fine and imprisonment for unsafe building owners in Kolkata if they don\u2019t carry out repair &#038; demolition work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kolkata Municipal Corporation is working on a new law for owners of \u201cunsafe\u201d buildings in Kolkata to take up basic responsibility and to prevent accidents.<\/p>\n<p>Those who fail to conform to the law may have to serve five years\u2019 imprisonment and\/or pay fine up to Rs. 1 lakh (if they fail to carry out basic renovation work of unsafe buildings of which they are in charge). The new law is to replace the existing municipal law of 1980.<\/p>\n<p>A proposal for a new law was raised at a meeting on Friday. Under the new law, KMC will hold either the owner of building or the occupants responsible to carry out the renovation work as applicable.
