With protests taking place in different parts of the state opposing the Citizenship Act, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday issued a statement in a video appealing to people to stay calm and not take the law in their own hands.<\/p>\n
Addressing people in the video, she said, \u201cThis is my request to all of you to not spread confusion. Do not spread tension or act under provocation.\u201d She assured people that neither the Citizenship Act nor the NRC (National Register of Citizens) will be implemented in Bengal.<\/p>\n
She assured people that if an Act is to be implemented, it has to be done through the state government, and as far as Bengal is concerned, she had already said that it would not be implemented here. \u201cWe have said already that we will not let these two be implemented in West Bengal,\u201d Banerjee said adding \u201cplease don\u2019t block roads and don\u2019t take the law in your own hands because it causes inconvenience to common people.\u201d<\/p>\n
“Let us all build a movement on this. We are all citizens and have rights. We won\u2019t let NRC and CAB be implemented, so do not worry,” she assured.
