Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday claimed that his government had not done anything about the National Register of Citizens, and people who were protesting had been misguided by the Opposition\u2019s lies.<\/p>\n
\u201cHas anything happened with the NRC yet? Lies are being spread,\u201d Modi said at a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rally in Delhi on Sunday. \u201cAfter my government came to power, from 2014 till now, let me tell the 130 crore citizens of this country, nowhere has the NRC word been discussed, been talked about. Only when the Supreme Court said, then we had to do it for Assam. What are they talking about? Spreading lies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
PM Modi\u2019s words have been criticised by the Opposition parties, because Home Minister Amit Shah has repeatedly spoken about implementing NRC nationally.<\/p>\n
Modi also mentioned \u201curban Naxals\u201d and said that they were \u201cspreading rumours that all Muslims will be sent to detention centres. I am amazed that even the educated people are asking what is a detention centre\u2026 these are all lies.\u201d<\/p>\n
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter to say that people will decide who is right and who is wrong. \u201cWhatever I said is there in public forum, whatever you said is there for people to judge.
