Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday led a rally in Kolkata to protest the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and reiterated that the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister\u2019s comments on the NRC were contradictory.<\/p>\n
PM Narendra Modi on Sunday claimed that his government had not done anything about the NRC, and people who were protesting had been misguided by the Opposition\u2019s lies. But the Union Home Minister has been talking about implementing a nation-wide NRC even in Parliament.<\/p>\n
Banerjee had tweeted about this earlier, and pointed out this contradiction at the public meeting yet again.<\/p>\n
She said that violence was taking place in states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and a Trinamool Congress delegation was not allowed to go into Uttar Pradesh to meet families of those killed in the violence. \u201cLook at Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi\u2026 your police is doing all this,\u201d she said, attacking the BJP.<\/p>\n
She pointed out the contrast in West Bengal where the BJP had held a rally \u201ccongratulating\u201d the Centre for the CAA. \u201cYou have come here, attacked Mamata Banerjee and left. Nothing has happened to you, no body stopped you. This is called democracy,\u201d Banerjee said.<\/p>\n
Banerjee also pointed out BJP\u2019s loss in Jharkhand, and said bit by bit the BJP will lose its grip from across the country. She said that her fight against NRC and CAA will continue, and rallies will be organised across the state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
