West Bengal Pradesh Congress leader Abdul Mannan has written to chief minister Mamata Banerjee requesting her to call an all-party meeting \u2013 barring the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) \u2013 to discuss the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The focus of the meeting would be to unite all the parties in the state against the Act.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP of the Congress from Bengal, Pradeep Bhattacharya had written to the CM on behalf of the Pradesh Congress appealing her to call an all-party meeting on the issue. But Abdul Mannan\u2019s proposal seeks to leave out the BJP from the meeting. According to Mannan, it is of no use calling the BJP to such a meeting, as the party has been instrumental in passing the CAA at the Centre.<\/p>\n
He also accused the BJP of trying to divide the people of the country on the basis of religion.
\nMamata Banerjee has been asking people in her recent public meeting and rallies to get their names on the electoral rolls. She has also reassured people that no one in Bengal needs to worry about losing their citizenship and that her administration will cooperate to get their names on the list.<\/p>\n
Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sujan Chakraborty has said that there must be an anti-CAA resolution in the state Assembly of Bengal like Kerala.<\/p>\n
The CM has already been making such an appeal to all the political parties across the country to stop the BJP from going ahead with the CAA.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
