Not so long ago \u2013 at least twice in the recent past in 2014 and 2016 \u2013 Bengal\u2019s tableau had won the first prize among all participants on the Republic Day parade. This year, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will be the chief guest at the Republic Day parade on January 26.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7928\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7928\" style=\"width: 748px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7928\" src=\"https:\/\/thebengalstory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/01\/wb.republic.day_.parade-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"748\" height=\"561\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7928\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An earlier Republic Day tableau by West Bengal.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, the tableau proposal was examined by an \u201cexpert committee\u201d in two rounds of meeting before coming to the conclusion of rejecting West Bengal&#8217;s proposal. There were 22 proposals from 16 states and union territories and six ministries\/departments shortlisted. This was selected from a total 56 tableau proposals (32 from states\/Union Territories and 24 from Central ministries and departments) that the government had received. The selection is made on the basis of theme, concept, design and visual impact.<\/p>\n<p>While Mamata Banerjee has not yet reacted to this, her party Trinamool Congress&#8217; MP Saugata Roy has said that this was an act of \u201cdiscrimination\u201d by excluding West Bengal.
