{"id":8008,"date":"2020-01-06T19:08:21","date_gmt":"2020-01-06T13:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/34.22.110.190\/english\/?p=8008"},"modified":"2021-01-05T03:09:18","modified_gmt":"2021-01-04T21:39:18","slug":"support-issues-but-not-notion-of-strike-says-mamata-banerjee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebengalstory.com\/english\/support-issues-but-not-notion-of-strike-says-mamata-banerjee\/","title":{"rendered":"Support &#8220;issues&#8221; but not notion of strike, says Mamata Banerjee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that she had support for the &#8220;issues&#8221; on which the strike had been called on January 8 by 10 central trade unions, but did not support the notion of strike itself.<\/p>\n<p>Ten central trade unions said that <a href=\"https:\/\/thebengalstory.com\/english\/jan-8-strike-25-crore-people-likely-to-participate-in-the-nation-wide-strike\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">around 25 crore people across the country<\/span><\/a> will participate in a nation-wide strike on January 8 to protest \u201canti-people\u201d policies of the Centre. INTUC, CITU, AITUC, HMS, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC along with several independent federations and associations had adopted a declaration to go on a nation-wide strike on January 8.<\/p>\n<p>Banerjee today said that she did not approve of the concept of a shutdown, because it meant no work for many people. &#8220;The way things are now, there is in any case lack of jobs. We cannot afford to have another day of shutdown,&#8221; she said. &#8220;From the time we have come to power, we do not support strikes, and have never called one,&#8221; Banerjee added.<\/p>\n<p>The Bengal government has issued an order for employees to compulsorily attend work on January 8, else they would lose out on a day of pay.
