Kolkata will see unprecedented security measures during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. PM Modi is arriving at Netaji Subhas International Airport at 4 pm on Saturday. He will attend a programme at the Old Currency Building, launch an interactive light and sound programme of Howrah Bridge from Millennium Park, travel to Belur Math where a programme is scheduled, and halt at Raj Bhawan for Saturday night.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, he will go to Netaji Indoor Stadium for a programme on 150 years of Kolkata Port Trust, and leave for Delhi a little after noon. However, the travel routes are being changed constantly due to security measures, as a number or organisations \u2013 both political and non-political \u2013 have called for programmes to show the PM black flags and shout \u201cGo Back\u201d slogans. There are nation-wide protests against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and attack on students of various universities.<\/p>\n
PM Modi will halt at Raj Bhawan on Saturday, where a meeting with chief minister Mamata Banerjee is likely, apart from Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar. He may also meet Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from the state and other individuals. The Prime Minister and Chief Minister are also likely to be on the same dais at the Kolkata Port Trust programme.<\/p>\n
Among demonstrations scheduled earlier were three planned \u2013 one outside the Kolkata airport, another at Kaikhali which is near the airport, and a third one outside Raj Bhawan. However, these are likely to be changed with changes in the PM’s route.<\/p>\n
While on the one hand the entire route will be lined with multiple-layer barricades, the schedule and routes are also being fine tuned from time to time to prevent the PM from facing any protest along the route.
