{"id":8198,"date":"2020-01-20T18:34:35","date_gmt":"2020-01-20T13:04:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/34.22.110.190\/english\/?p=8198"},"modified":"2021-01-05T03:09:15","modified_gmt":"2021-01-04T21:39:15","slug":"centre-fooling-people-with-ambiguous-clauses-in-npr-mamata-banerjee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebengalstory.com\/english\/centre-fooling-people-with-ambiguous-clauses-in-npr-mamata-banerjee\/","title":{"rendered":"Centre fooling people with ambiguous clauses in NPR: Mamata Banerjee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday accused the Centre of trying to fool people with ambiguous clauses of the National Population Register (NPR).<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the inauguration of Uttarbanga Utsab, Banerjee reiterated her demand urging the Centre to remove the parameters of birthplace and date of birth of one\u2019s parents from the NPR form.<\/p>\n<p>She alleged that although the Centre has said it is not mandatory for people to provide details to these two fields, \u201cnot doing so can get one disqualified as a citizen at the time of conducting National Register of Citizens (NRC),\u201d she said. \u201cI can\u2019t fall into this trap,\u201d she asserted. NPR won\u2019t be implemented in Bengal as long as the Centre does not remove the controversial clauses from the form, Banerjee said.<\/p>\n<p>She reminded people that she kept her word in boycotting NPR by not attending the meeting in Delhi last Friday. Banerjee said, \u201cSo many (states) had raised their voices against NPR, but no one kept their word.
