A group of students have filed a complaint with the police against Vishwa Bharati University in Shantiniketan against Vice Chancellor Bidyut Chakraborty for allegedly telling people to \u201cteach a lesson\u201d to Left-leaning students.<\/p>\n

A video has emerged in which Chakraborty is talking in public allegedly telling people to \u201cteach a lesson\u201d to some Left-leaning students. The authenticity of the video could not be confirmed. It is said to have been shot on January 7. An official of the university was quoted saying it was a doctored video that had been released in order to tarnish the image of the university.<\/p>\n

Two students, Swapnanil Mukhopadhyay and Debabrata Nath were allegedly beaten<\/span><\/a> up by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) a couple of weeks ago. Both are members of the Left students\u2019 union, Students\u2019 Federation of India (SFI). SFI members said that Wednesday night\u2019s attack on them was a retaliation of the events of January 8, when Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta for several hours by the university students when he went there to speak on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).<\/p>\n

A three-member committee was later formed<\/span><\/a> to probe into the incident of attack and into the gherao of Dasgupta. The committee is headed by Jyotirmay Bhattacharya, former acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court. The committee has been asked to submit its report within a month to the Vice-Chancellor of the university.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
