Trinamool Congress members in the Rajya Sabha on Monday moved six amendments to the President\u2019s opening speech delivered before the Budget Session on Friday. The amendments question his \u201csilence\u201d on issues like the protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), economic slowdown and the lockdown in Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370.<\/p>\n
The amendments were moved by Derek O’ Brien and Sukhendu Sekhar Ray. Trinamool was joined by other Opposition parties like the Congress, Left parties, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) among others, and demanded discussions on these issues.<\/p>\n
The amendments were moved to include the issues of CAA, Register of Citizens (NRC), and the National Population Register (NPR) for discussion in the ongoing session.<\/p>\n
The Left parties have also moved a suspension of business notice in the Rajya Sabha to discuss the \u201cprevailing situation in the country over the proposed\u201d NRC, NPR and CAA.<\/p>\n
Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu however, dismissed the proposed amendments and said that the discussions will take place only on the issues included in presidential address. This was followed by intense protests from the opposition following which the house was adjourned till 2 pm.<\/p>\n
Trinamool Congress along with the other Opposition parties in the Lok Sabha today moved adjournment notices to discuss the CAA, NRC and NPR and also to address the recent shootings in Jamia Milia University and Shaheen Bagh.<\/p>\n
Some Opposition MPs shouted \u201cGoli maarna bandh karo; desh ko todna bandh karo<\/em>\u201d as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Union minister of state Anurag Thakur got up to speak.
