Was it an attempt at abducting a 28-year-old woman from Kolkata\u2019s Tangra on Tuesday night? An allegation and information collected on ground seem to indicate a wide gap between the claims and the reality. However, police officers in Kolkata are trying to bring the mystery of the alleged abduction to a closure.<\/p>\n
A 52-year old resident of Tangra, Gopal Pramanik, was killed on February 4 by an ambulance while trying to save his daughter-in-law Priyanka from two persons in an ambulance who allegedly tried to abduct her.<\/p>\n
The incident took place at around 11:50 pm when they were returning home from a wedding. The 28-year-old woman and her relatives alleged that the ambulance, which was approaching from Topsia side, hit Pramanik as he tried to save her, accelerated and dragged him up to a distance of nearly 100 metres.<\/p>\n
However, the details in the incident are still sketchy even as the police officers are inspecting the CCTV footage. The driver and his assistant have already been arrested.<\/p>\n
With CCTV footage available from one side and certain details remaining sketchy, the sequence of events is unclear. The footage is of 1.14 minutes is thus being examined thoroughly. The woman could be seen with her daughter and a relative, while the rest are at a distance behind. All of them were walking along the side of the road. The ambulance could be seen driving at high speed but officers say it\u2019s not possible for anyone to try to abduct someone within three seconds as alleged by the woman and her relatives.<\/p>\n
This however, has been captured from one side of the road because there were no cameras on the other side.
\nThe city police authorities are thus trying to track down witnesses who may be able to provide details not caught in camera. A person in a bicycle and a vehicle were spotted in the CCTV footage, and officers are trying to track them down.<\/p>\n
Questions were raised by the police initially as to why the woman and her relatives spoke of the attempt of abduction. However, local people alleged that police were trying to dilute the case and staged a protest outside Tangra police station.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
