Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said in the state Assembly that those protesting the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) did not die of bullets fired by police, but from firing by other protesters. He created a controversy with his comment that they could not be saved as they were going ahead in ordering to die.<\/div>\n
“Agar koi marne ke liye aa hi raha hai to woh zinda kahan se ho jaayega (if someone comes wishing to die then how will he go away alive)”.
\nPetitions were earlier filed in Allahabad Court alleging police atrocity on the CAA protesters. On Tuesday, the UP government told the court that 22 persons had died and 83 injured in the clashes during the protests. The police were also accused of not providing proper medical care to the wounded, not handing over autopsy reports of the dead to their families, entering the houses of protesters and detaining and torturing minors.
\nHowever, the state denied these allegations and instead claimed that 45 policemen and government officials were injured in the violence.
\nReferring to the deaths and injuries, Adityanath said, “woh jis bhasha main samjhega, uss bhasha main samjhayenge (we will reply to them in the language they understand)”.
