Vinay Sharma, one of the four death row convicts in Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case moved court on Thursday for treatment of “grievous head injury, fracture in his right arm, mental illness and schizophrenia.”
\nVinay was reported to be injured by Tihar Jail authorities after he allegedly banged his head against the prison wall on Sunday. The security personnel saw and stopped him. Vinay has suffered minor injuries.
\nHis lawyer AP Singh claimed that he is currently unable to recognise people including his own mother. Singh had earlier claimed that Vinay was suffering from mental illness and hence should not be executed.
\nHis lawyer had claimed that he was on a “hunger stirke” and his mental condition was not good.
\nSo far, three death warrants have been issued for the four convicts as the warrants kept getting nullified one after another as the convicts took to various legal remedies available to them.
\nThe date of execution has now been fixed for March 3. Three of the convicts have exhausted their legal remedies while Pawan Gupta hasn’t yet filed a curative petition.
\nSix persons were arrested and charged with rape and murder of a 23-year-old medical student in Delhi in 2012, which came to be known as the Nirbhaya case. One of the accused was a minor and was tried in the juvenile justice court. He was released after three years. Another accused \u2013 Ram Singh \u2013 had allegedly committed suicide in Tihar Jail.<\/div>\n
