Shiv Sena chief and Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Friday that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Population Register (NPR) will be implemented in the state. He, however, doesn\u2019t wan the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Maharashtra. Thackeray said this after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.<\/p>\n
He said that he had discussed a number of issues with the PM and assured people that CAA and NPR won\u2019t compel citizens out of the country. Thackeray said that if any new columns are added to the NPR form then they will be scrutinised and if found to be \u201cproblematic\u201d, the NPR won\u2019t be implemented in the state. He had said earlier that so far he didn\u2019t find any question in the NPR form to be problematic.<\/p>\n
Regarding CAA, he said that it would benefit oppressed minorities in the country. The NRC however is problematic to everyone irrespective of caste, creed and religion, he said, and thus refused to implement it in Maharashtra.<\/p>\n
However, both Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) who have formed a coalition government with Shiv Sena in Maharashtra are strictly against implementing the CAA and NPR.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
