Three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers have been arrested for shouting \u201cgoli maaro (shoot them)\u201d slogans prior to Union Home Minister Amit Shah\u2019s rally in Kolkata on Sunday.<\/p>\n
All the three have been arrested after police identified them from various video footages. The\u00a0goli maaro<\/em>\u00a0slogan is said to have fuelled the violence that erupted in Delhi last week, leading to horrific violence that killed over 40 persons and leaving over 200 injured. \nThe arrested persons are\u00a0Surendra Kumar Tiwari, Pankaj Prasad and Dhruba Basu, all residents of Kolkata. They have been booked under four sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) \u2013 153A, 505, 506 and 34 \u2013 which includes promoting feeling of enmity among religions, inciting one community against another, criminal intimidation and act done by several persons with common intention. The first one is a non-bailable offence.
\nPolice said that they are trying to identify other BJP workers who raised the slogan by interrogating the three.
\nOn Sunday, some BJP workers were seen shouting \u201cgoli maaro<\/em>\u201d from a rally approaching the Shahid Minar from Jawaharlal Nehru Road in Kolkata, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke in a rally.<\/p>\n
