Three suspects were admitted to the isolation ward of Beliaghata Infectious Diseases (ID) Hospital of Kolkata on Wednesday. One of them is a woman from Dum Dum, the second is a man from South 24 Parganas and the third, a man from Nadia’s Ranaghat.
\nOver 1,000 people are in home quarantine at present in Bengal while 115 have already completed their quarantine period. There are 92 beds altogether in the isolation wards of hospitals across the state at present.
\nThe state health department has opened a camp at the NSC Bose International Airport to immediately quarantine the COVID-19 suspects after thermal screening. Passengers arriving from affected countries have to mandatorily undergo medical screening in the hospitals, it was decided.
\nThe West Bengal government issued a notification on Wednesday asking all the municipalities to be on the alert for checking Coronavirus (COVID-19). Municipalities have been asked to maintain a stock of personal preventive equipment (PPE) like masks and gloves among others. All the district magistrates have also been alerted in the matter.
\nKolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has asked health centres in the city to note down personal details of individuals showing symptoms similar to COVID-19 and report their details to the government if their condition deteriorates.
\nMeanwhile, Calcutta University has stopped its scholars, students and faculties from travelling to COVID-19 affected countries. It has also stopped the arrival of guest speakers and teachers from these countries.
\nSeveral schools in Kolkata have also postponed foreign trips of their students under exchange programs while the rest are reconsidering their plans. Some of the schools have asked those parents who have recently visited the affected countries to complete the admission formalities over phone.<\/p>\n
