Two sanitising tunnels started operation in Ramgarh and Patuli markets in ward number 101 of Kolkata on Wednesday. The tunnels will sanitise anyone entering or leaving the markets to check the spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).<\/p>\n
This is the first such initiative taken by Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). Earlier, a sanitising tunnel was set up at New Market through private initiative.<\/p>\n
The tunnels will sanitise people by spraying a mist of sodium hypochlorite which is a known disinfectant. KMC has been using sodium hypochlorite on a regular basis for sanitising hospitals, ambulances, buildings, roads and other public places after the incidence of COVID-19 in the city.<\/p>\n
The tunnels are made of iron with a reservoir of 1,000 litre holding the disinfectant atop the tunnel. The disinfectant is sprayed as fine mist on people through 24 nozzles. Sensors placed inside the tunnels detect anyone entering it and the nozzles start spraying mist.<\/p>\n
Some states across the country have already been using\u00a0such tunnels to check the spread of COVID-19. KMC will set up such tunnels in other important markets of the city.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
