Trinamool Congress on Thursday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to wrest power in West Bengal with “politics over dead bodies” of people amidst Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.
\nSenior leaders of the party Rajib Banerjee, Partha Bhowmick and Samir Chakraborty said this in an online press conference.
\nThe leaders alleged that BJP is deliberately trying to spread COVID-19 in Bengal so that they are able to show this as a failure of Trinamool Congress-led state government before the Assembly elections in 2021. “BJP wants to see dead bodies of Bengalis. They are doing politics over dead bodies of people in Bengal,” said Banerjee.
\nHe alleged that BJP tried to spread COVID-19 in uninfected areas of Bengal by sending Central teams “who could have been infected with COVID-19”. Recently, some security personnel escorting the teams tested positive for COVID-19.
\nBhowmick alleged that BJP is trying to increase the spread of COVID-19 in Bengal by opening the Petrapole checkpoint for trade and commerce with Bangladesh. Banerjee said that the Centre will have to take the responsibility if the number of cases rises in Bengal due to this decision taken by them.
\nThe leaders said that by doing so, BJP is trying to upset the efforts of chief minister Mamata Banerjee for containing COVID-19 in Bengal.
