There were 1,088 new cases of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) reported in West Bengal on Thursday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 25,911 (till July 9).<\/p>\n

There were 986 new cases reported on Wednesday, another 850 new cases were reported on the day before that, on July 7. On July 6, there were 861 new cases and another 895 cases were reported on July 5.<\/p>\n

There has been 854 deaths in the state so far, 27 of which took place in the past 24 hours. The high number of reported cases and more deaths than what has taken place in the past few days has led to a drop in the discharge rate \u2013 from 65.62 per cent to 64.93% in one day. There are 8,231 active COVID-19 cases in the state right now. The number of tests done during the past 24 hours was 10,805.<\/p>\n

A fresh lockdown has been imposed in parts of the state from July 9 at 5 pm. This will be in place for a week as of now, after which the government will review the situation and decide on the next course of action. A list of affected areas \u2013 where the lockdown rules will be imposed \u2013 has been drawn up for the state. After a week, the lockdown may or may not be extended and if it is implemented again, the list is likely to undergo changes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
