Rabindra Bharati University police complaint after “objectionable” photos by students, five tracked down

Rabindra Bharati University authorities in Kolkata lodged a complaint with the Sinthee police station on Friday after a number of photos went viral on social media showing some students sporting “objectionable words” written on them during a pre-Doljatra celebration inside the campus on Thursday.
A number of photos were making rounds on social media since Thursday evening where some students were seen sporting “objectionable words” written with coloured powder (abir or gulal). Some were male students whose faces could be seen in some of the photos. The female students could not be seen in the pictures. The words were written mocking a Rabindrasangeet, said a student. Some videos also allegedly showed a Rabindrasangeet playing in the campus during the celebration, the words of which seemed to have been distorted in order to mock the song.
Five out of six students seen in one of the photos have been traced. The students were interrogated to trace the others.

Officers of the cyber crime cell of Kolkata Police said that they will work in tracking down all those responsible.

Some reports said that the university authorities have identified some of these students as coming from a college in Hooghly’s Chandanagar. However, all the students have not been identified yet.
