Writer Buddhadeb Guha passes away at 85

He was suffering from post-COVID-19 complications.

Eminent writer Buddhadeb Guha, author of many notable works, passed away on Sunday night. He was 85. Guha, died of post-Covid complications at a private hospital in Kolkata after a cardiac arrest.

Born on June 29, 1936 in Kolkata, Guha had spent his childhood in Rangpur and Barisal districts, now in Bangladesh.

He was suffering from post-Covid complications and had been hospitalised earlier this month after complaining of breathlessness and urinary infection, according to reports. He had earlier suffered from Covid-19 in April and had been hospitalised for over a month. His wife, renowned Rabindrasangeet exponent Ritu Guha had passed away in 2011.

Buddhadeb Guha had won awards like the Ananda Purashkar, Shiroman Purashkar and Sharat Puraskar. His works include Madhukari, Koeler Kachhe, Sobinoy Nibedon, Sogotokti, Ektu Ushnotar Jonno and stories of popular fictional character Rijuda, a hunter-turned-conservationist. Guha was a charted accountant by profession, as well as a noted classical singer and illustrator.
