West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is in East Midnapore’s Digha to inaugurate a business convention centre. On Monday evening, on reaching the area, she visited the fishermen’s village in Contai and interacted with them and members of their families.
She asked the women what kind of difficulties they faced in their day-to-day lives. She asked them whether they were availing of government welfare schemes like Kanyashree and Rupashree, whether they had received caste certificates without any hassle, whether they were sending their children to schools etc. A large number of women and children came to meet the CM. As soon as a large number of children had surrounded her, Banerjee sent someone to buy chocolates from the nearby market to be distributed among the children.
Before going to the East Midnapore district, she went to a slum area in Howrah and interacted with the residents.
Banerjee has been continuing with her efforts to interact personally with the people in the state in order to find out the difficulties they face due to loopholes in the administrative system of functioning.
