Anandabazar Patrika journalist named BJP candidate from Suri

Jagannath Chattopadhyay resigned from the ABP group on Thursday morning.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its third list of candidates on Thursday, and in it were plenty of surprises and heartbreaks for many.

While several actors and sportspersons have become candidates this time, BJP’s list of candidates on Thursday had the name of a journalist from one of the leading media houses in the country – Anandabazar Patrika. Journalist Jagannath Chattopadhyay has been fielded by the BJP as candidate from Birbhum’s Suri. Chattopadhyay resigned from the ABP group as journalist on Thursday morning, and the list of candidates was announced in the afternoon.

Several journalists have joined politics in West Bengal in recent times. Prabir Ghoshal, who has been Trinamool Congress MLA was a journalist too. He has now joined the BJP and is the party’s candidate from Uttarpara. Trinamool had nominated journalist Kunal Ghosh as Rajya Sabha MP earlier, and is now the party’s spokesperson.
