Mamata Banerjee on meeting with PM Modi: will discuss West Bengal name change, projects, funds

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee will call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Wednesday at 4.30 pm. Banerjee left for the capital on Tuesday afternoon, and spoke to journalists before that.

According to the Bengal CM, there were several issues concerning West Bengal that she would go to Delhi to discuss, and it included Central government projects, pending funds due to the state and change of the state’s name.

This is the first time that Banerjee will meet the Prime Minister after the results of the Lok Sabha polls. She had planned to be present at the swearing in ceremony of the new government at the Centre, but cancelled it later.

Banerjee today said before leaving, that in a democracy, both the Central and the state governments had been elected by the people and both were duty-bound to work for the people. “Since the Central government is in Delhi, the President, Prime Minister are in Delhi, we have to visit the capital from time to time,” Banerjee said, adding that she had not visited Delhi for quite some time now.
