Centre calls all-party meeting on Thursday to discuss Afghanistan

The Central government has called an all-party meeting on Thursday to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the foreign ministry to inform floor leaders of the political parties on the development in the country, according to foreign minister S Jaishankar.

He tweeted: “In view of developments in Afghanistan, PM Narendra Modi has instructed that MEA brief Floor Leaders of political parties. Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi will be intimating further details”.

Indian citizens in Afghanistan are currently being evacuated and there are two flights operating per day from Kabul to India. On August 17, PM Modi had chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security and asked officials to ensure the safe evacuation of Indians stranded in Afghanistan. Crowds have been growing at the airport since the Taliban takeover.
