Trinamool Congress leader and former Bengal minister Madan Mitra has tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to a hospital off Kolkata’s EM Bypass on Wednesday evening. He was earlier admitted in the state-run SSKM Hospital for respiratory distress.
Mitra, 66, contested the polls this time from Kamarhati constituency – where he won in 2011 but lost to CPI(M)’s Manas Mukherjee in 2016 Assembly election.
Kamarhati voted in the earlier phase on Saturday, and Mitra was taken ill during the polling that day. He was advised by doctors to remain under close observation for a week after initial treatment.
