Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora along with Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa will be in Kolkata on January 30 to review the preparations for the coming Lok Sabha elections.
The ECI has communicated this to the state chief electoral officer West Bengal Aariz Aftab. The ECI bench will met top officials of the state, including chief secretary Malay De, home secretary Atri Bhattacharya.
The Commission had earlier asked the state government what measures were taken in cases where allegations were levelled against officials in the last panchayat elections.
The ECI authorities will also meet the district magistrates and police superintendents of all districts, and other senior officials from all over the state. There are also plans to meet representatives of various political parties.
The overall purpose of the visit and the meetings is to see the state’s preparedness in terms of updating the electoral rolls and ensuring free and fair polls, said an officer.
