A letter purportedly written by Trinamool Congress lawmaker Debasree Roy to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah, seeking personal security, has been doing the rounds. The letter was written on October 20.
According to the letter, “This is to bring to your notice that since I will be joining the party, my personal security will be at stake. I will therefore, need extra security for my protection. My CA (name removed), will coordinate my entire work schedule and will also need protection. I request you to kindly look into the matter.”
Roy however, claimed that this was a fake letter. She said that it was only “wishful thinking” on part of some people that she will be joining the BJP. However, Roy’s “association” with the BJP leading to controversy, is not new. In August this year, Sovon Chatterjee and his friend Baishakhi Bandopadhyay, had gone to the BJP party office in New Delhi, only to find that Roy was also in the same office. It was not clear why Debasree Roy, a Trinamool lawmaker from Raidighi in West Bengal, was doing in the headquarters of the BJP.
The state BJP boss, Dilip Ghosh claimed that Roy had gone to his house seeking to join the BJP, which she had later denied. “I have heard about the letter. She has to decide first,” Ghosh said.
Incidentally, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, will meet leaders of her party today to discuss various issues, and this matter – directly or indirectly – is likely to come up.
