KPC Hospital in Kolkata to function as COVID-19 hospital

KPC Medical College and Hospital will start functioning as full-fledged government designated Covid hospital. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted this afternoon that it will be the 69th dedicated Covid-19 treatment facility which will provide treatment to patients free of cost. The hospital will have the capacity of 200 Covid-19 beds. The hospital started functioning from Tuesday itself.
Banerjee announced that the inclusion of KPC Medical College as a dedicated Covid-19 treatment facility will further ramp up the Covid treatment in the state.
Earlier on May 7, Kolkata Medical College was declared as the 68th dedicated Covid-19 treatment centre with 500 beds. Both private and government hospitals are providing COVID treatment to the patients in the state. Earlier, apart from Beliaghata Infectious Diseases Hospital which was being treated as a nodal centre for Covid treatment in the state, MR Bangur hospital in south Kolkata was also turned into a dedicated Covid-19 hospital.
Now, with the number of patients increasing with each passing day, the government has decided to increase the number of its treatment facilities. Also, the number of Covid testing labs in the city has also gone up significantly resulting in more number of tests and diagnosis.
