Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public meeting in West Midnapore on July 16. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is aiming to secure a huge vote share across the state in the next year’s general election. The party’s performance in certain parts of south Bengal, especially Purulia and West Midnapore was impressive.
Within 20 days of BJP president Amit Shah’s call for parivartan (change) in Bengal, the PM’s meeting would add more significance to the state politics as Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has already pitched herself as the one of the prominent faces of united opposition against the BJP.
State BJP president Dilip Ghosh said the state leadership will congratulate Modi for increasing the minimum selling price (MSP) of 14 kharif (summer-sown) crops, including paddy, cotton and pulses. Ghosh added, however, that the PM has no plan to visit Kolkata this time.
BJP insiders felt, Narendra Modi would definitely speak on the alleged murder of two BJP workers in Purulia along with Bengal’s “degrading law and order situation”.
