2 Omicron variant cases detected in Karnataka: Health ministry

"No need to panic, follow COVID-19 protocols", says ministry official.

Two COVID-19 cases of the Omicron variant have been detected in India, it was said by the Union Health Ministry authorities. This is the first confirmation of the Coronavirus strain in the country.

Both cases have been reported in Karnataka. The patients are two men – aged 66 and 46. This was said by health ministry joint secretary Lav Agarwal. He said the identity of the patients will not be disclosed now to protect their privacy. He said that all those who had come into contact with the patients are being traced and tested.

He said that there is no need to panic about the detection of cases in India but COVID-19 protocols but be adhered to, and gatherings should be avoided.
