30 buildings need to be demolished in Bowbazar for Metro Railway work
Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) has said in its report that as many as 30 buildings need to be demolished in Bowbazar for continuing the work for East-West Metro tunnel.
In its report, the KMRC has said that seepage of water into the tunnel has been successfully stopped and hence no more landslides will occur. But at least 30 buildings need to be demolished which are in a very badly affected state and may pose threat. KMRC has also said that the buildings that are being broken down will be reconstructed for the affected families later on.
The Metro authorities have also reported that as of now 230 families have been taken out from their houses, who are living elsewhere. Of them, 83 families have already been compensated with Rs 5 lakh each. The process of compensating the rest is on.
The families from the partially damaged or fully collapsed buildings have been relocated from their houses or flats to elsewhere, and they are living in hotels for the time being. It is expected that they need to stay in their temporary addresses for at least a year. Valuables from the buildings that are being demolished, are being handed over to the respective owners.
A core committee has been formed by the Chief Minister to address the issue and supervise the remaining work of East-West Metro.
