Mamata Banerjee’s injury in Nandigram: CID takes charge

The Trinamool chief was injured on March 10.

West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee was injured in Nandigram of East Midnapore on March 10. On Saturday, the West Bengal Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took charge of the investigation to probe how and why the incident took place.

Banerjee, on that day, filed her nomination papers in Haldia, and planned to stay back in Nandigram for the night. She is contesting the polls from Nandigram assembly constituency. While she was in a vehicle meeting people in a busy market area, its door shut on her leg. Banerjee was rushed to Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital, where she was admitted for two days. The Trinamool Congress has alleged that there was an attempt on her life. The party has submitted a complaint before the Election Commission of India in this respect.

Subsequently, the district magistrate, the police superintendent and the IPS officer in charge of her security were transferred. Banerjee has been campaigning for the elections on a wheelchair.
