Rashmi Rocket Full Movie Download: Two of the reasons why i was excited about Rashmi rocket was because it was being directed by akash karana who created one of my favorite go-to films in the form of karva and two it provided a glimpse of showcasing an aspect that has not been covered by many sports biopics in Bollywood. Rather than the simplistic approach of portraying an underdog story rashmi rocket progresses to initially showcase a journey of an athlete, and move on to shed light on the regressive controlling and binary notion that comes with gender tests.
I’ve always been a fan of taapsi pannu and her choices, she is one of the actors who has clarity with the fame that she has deservedly achieved that she wants to only do a specific types of roles but does rashmi rocket check off the right box of another hit in her kitty, or are her portrayals becoming extensions of her many roles. That is the big question, rashmi rocket focuses on rashmi played
by tapsee pannu who grows up in Gujarat and is given the nickname of the rocket due to her fast pace, when she grows up and becomes a tour guide of the area she is motivated by captain Gagan Thakur played by Priyanka to showcase the world her gifted talent of agility and pace.
embarking upon immediate success rashmi is met with animosity within her own team politics from influential figures that curtail her growth and finally the infamous gender test that solidifies in the minds of the public that she was not a woman within the confines of an athletic federation. The court case in order to uplift her ban forms the second half of the film and how it transpires to educate the viewer and expand their thought process of what constitutes a woman. Be it the clothes she wears the color of her skin the decision she makes or more importantly her testosterone levels. here’s me telling you the good and bad aspects of the film so that you guys can ultimately decide whether to watch it on zee5 or not.

the good the real battles there are many discussions that are taking place regarding who this story is based on and i just want to make it clear that rashmi rocket actually takes inspiration from several
real-life stories, and hence becomes an amalgamation of the encounters of some athletes rather than it just becoming about one person. Santi Sandra Jan won a silver medal in the 800-meter race in the Asian Games in 2006 and was disqualified on the grounds of not having the sexual characteristics of a woman. Later termed as androgen insensitivity syndrome. The humiliation and harassment were so extreme that she had also attempted suicide once.
dothi chan the silver medalist in two events in the Asian games in 2018 had also failed the gender test to compete for the commonwealth games in 2014. She went through a legal route to fight against the unfair treatment that actually led to a change in the parameters of what constitutes a biological woman. illegible to qualify dependent on her testosterone levels and finally inky pramanik a silver medalist in the commonwealth games of 2006 accused of rape and termed as a male pseudo-hermaphrodite. After a chromosome test, all these stories are absolutely horrifying and what the film successfully does is shed light on an issue that was probably not known to the masses. The noble cause and messaging of this have to be commended at least with respect to the intention of the creators with this storyline.
the execution part is one thing that i will obviously criticize as you guys have already understood the chronology of my reviews but the intention of the creators nanda periswami, anirudh guha, and kanika delon needs to be loaded probably the only film that i can think of that shed light on the corrupt nature and unjust practices of the gender test that have ruined the lives of athletes was the 2013 Tamil film ethernet. The state of Indian athletics and the treatment of athletes over many decades have been so lackluster that the film clearly sheds light on the blatant corruption and problematic practices that exist in many
of these organizations.
moreover strictly from a human rights and consent point of view the invasive nature of these gender tests and the horrifying stories and ramifications that it has led to on talented athletes lives, really does make your mind start to think of the trauma that they may have undergone what needs to be understood in the criticism of this film is that just because a noble message exists in the film it does not mean you give the benefit of the doubt to the film to work as a holistic story. It also needs to be treated with tact subtlety and nuance something that is clearly missing in this film let me know in the comments below also if you feel that sometimes poor films hide under the gaba for social message and its inconsistencies are casually forgotten.
chemistry and abhishek banerjee i am going to come to taapsi panu and her performance later but i have to say that it is definitely not one of those that will be remembered in the future weeks to come. I commend her determination to portray certain types of female characters but that necessarily does not equate to every performance becoming compelling. The best sequences or acting moments actually are when tapsi shares the screen with priyancho and abhishek banerjee. There is an understated and confident quality that priyanshu brings to this film acting like a solid rock for rashmi.
despite the sorry circumstances in which she finds herself In abhishek banerjee has to be the highlight of this film, his introduction happens in the second half but he actually makes this film interesting and I had a sigh of relief as he probably rescued this film from becoming just all over the place from a screenplay point of view. his courtroom sequences though cheesy in their pitch and primitive in its depth are actually enjoyable to
watch, but let’s get to brass tacks of the overall poor execution of a film dealing with a sensitive topic that just needed better treatment. the underwhelming aspects confuse representation the biggest problem about this film is that it is so filmy cheesy, and over the top in its treatment that the serious topic it actually focuses on loses the gravitas that it actually requires you remember we were joking about the surface level treatment that makers resort to in order to portray a liberated woman usually with a drink or smoking a cigarette.
similarly, femininity, or what is not considered to be the norm also goes beyond the exterior it’s as if through rashmi’s character the creators want to instill in our mind almost force it in the most generic fashion that she is such a badass so whether it be her liking for jeans or driving a bike around or slapping a man in public the representation is as in your face as possible. While not wanting to be cliche the film ends up becoming cliche. Showcasing a tomboy rashmi shaking a leg on the dance floor in a ghagra in sneakers in an awfully placed song called ghani cool chori. It just confuses me what’s the need of this song for a film talking about such a horrifying matter. I mean let’s talk about the elephant in the room as well as the case of the brown face, I don’t see the same energy being put on when everybody came with their pitchforks to slander the gaussian for super 30 and Samantha for family man now I’ve also come to the realization that everyone wants to cherry-pick on who they want to criticize who to conveniently forget about while they perpetuate the same stereotype.
the problem isn’t racing as we are all Indians but about the opportunity to cast an individual who fits the bill rather than one who is dunked with bronzer. The comical and lackluster portrayal of sports one of my biggest pet peeves about Bollywood sports films is when they don’t capture the sport well i mean that’s the least that one could expect from a film based on an athlete. if the gold standard for hockey is chugda india for boxing his mukabas and for track and athletics is bhagmil khabhag then i have to say that rashmi rocket captures the sport in an extremely comical fashion almost taking a mick out of how complex the sport truly is. There is a scene where she overtakes priyancho’s character and they literally portray it like flash overtaking someone like with the whole cartoonish sound effect and all. A film that requires realism with its writing is also met with over-the-top theatrics and a lack of skill with the sport as well.
for anyone who has 100 meters during school and college athletics or have the basic knowledge you would know that it’s a matter of milliseconds that can make or break your end result but they make rashmi a superhero in this film with false starts overtaking opponents as if they’ve come here for a picnic. Being more than 30 meters away from her in some instances there are many moments where you can actually see the characters jogging while tapsee leads them with a handsome distance most of the running sequences are sped up and never provide you a feeling of those events taking place in real-time. Most of the running sequences are montages as well as taking away from the hard work that goes into these sports. Strictly from a technical standpoint also tapsee is mostly flat-footed in her running stature the biggest red flag for any sprinter who knows that the ideal way to run is on your toes to minimize the contact with the flow.
the competition within her team also running is absolutely hilarious barely having the pace that would assemble into a team to represent India. The way the sport has been captured in this film especially in the first half is abysmal, to say the least. Primitive execution to a complex subject as it became very clear to me that the sport is not the prime focus and the complex subject regarding the gender test and treatment of athletes is I thought at least they would get this right. What the creators get right from a human rights point of view actually presents a very primitive and rudimentary biological approach when it comes to science.
