New Governor of West Bengal Jagdeep Dhankar takes charge

Jagdeep Dhankar arrived in the city on Monday, and was sworn in as the new Governor of West Bengal on Tuesday. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the swearing in among other dignitaries.

Dhankar had arrived in Kolkata on Monday, accompanied by his family members, at the DumDum airport, and was received by three state ministers – Bratya Basu, Purnendu Basu and Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay.

Keshari Nath Tripathi, the former Governor, before he left Bengal, had criticised Mamata Banerjee saying that her partisan politics has adversely affected the social harmony of the state. This has not been taken to kindly by the ruling party in the state and the leaders said that the position of the Governor is constitutional and the person holding it ought to be neutral. They said that a warm and positive beginning had started with the new Governor taking charge.
