Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has partially revoked the increased fees of hostels under pressure from protesting students.
The university has also announced a scheme to assist students from economically weaker sections. Union education secretary R. Subrahmanyam took to Twitter today saying, “#JNU Executive Committee announces major roll-back in the hostel fee and other stipulations. Also proposes a scheme for economic assistance to the EWS students. Time to get back to classes. @HRDMinistry”
The students have however said that they are not happy with the decision and instead demand a complete revocation of the increased fees. JNU students had been staging protests for 16 days with a major scuffle with police on Monday, the university’s convocation day. The convocation was attended by M. Venkaiyah Naidu and Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.
