Karen Davidson, great-granddaughter of Harley-Davidson co-founder William A. Davidson in Kolkata, talks about her soft corner for motorbikes
Karen Davidson, great-granddaughter of Harley-Davidson co-founder William A. Davidson, was in Kolkata on Monday and talked about how she fell in love with motorbikes since she was nine years old. Although she did not have a license then, she would ride small N-50 bikes.
Davidson talked about how her father would always inspire her to bring more creativity into the business. Now, she prefers to go on long road trips with her beloved H-D bikes.
She feels that if one woman takes up motorbike riding, others can get inspired. “It is like a chain reaction, and every woman can try and pass on the baton to another one.”
On Monday, Karen inaugurated the Harley-Davidson’s first apparel store in a city mall. Karen, the Creative Director of Harley-Davidson’s General Merchandise Line, said, “We as a company believe in strong individuality and personality. We always promote customerization and look forward to creating something new. The youth can discover freedom, self-expression wearing these products.”
Asked about the specialty of its new store, Karen said that good product quality and the little touches to customize products create the edge. This is her first visit to India, and she has helped creating some smart clothes that would attract the youths from the city.
The motorcycle company is planning to launch a numbers of bike outlets as well as apparel stores across in India to attract the young. In the coming weeks, two stores will be launched in Varanasi and Goa.
