West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday inaugurated a new public relations initiative of her party from a party meeting at Kolkata’s Netaji Indoor Stadium.
The initiative, Banglar Gorbo Mamata (Bengal’s pride, Mamata) is a 75-day program meant to connect closely with the people of the state. Under the program, more than 75,000 party leaders and grassroots level workers will visit around 15,000 localities across the state. The program aims to reach out to around 2.5 crore people in Bengal.
A booklet detailing the features of the program has been distributed among party workers. Trinamool Congress will follow the program guidelines for the upcoming civic polls in state, said Banerjee.
President of the party’s youth wing and Banerjee’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee said at the meeting that the program will be carried out in three phases comprising of 11 stages.
He added that the initiative has been named such because Banerjee is among those few people in the country acting as protector and guardian of the Preamble to the Indian Constitution, and is safeguarding Bengal’s culture and tradition and making untiring efforts to “restore the lost glory of Bengal”.
