Amit Shah cancels Jhargram meeting: BJP says chopper glitch, Trinamool alleges venue wasn’t filling up

Shah addressed the meeting virtually.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday cancelled his public rally in Jhargram, scheduled at 11 AM. He addressed the meeting virtually. His second public rally at Bankura will take place as planned.

According to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sources, due to technical issues with the chopper he is travelling in, he was unable to fly to Jhargram. He addressed the gathering through his phone which was played through the loudspeakers at the venue. “The technical fault with the chopper has restricted Amit Shah from attending his Jhargram rally. We then thought of a virtual address but since there is no large screen on stage, Shah addressed the meeting over phone. He will however, address the Bankura rally before leaving for Guwahati in Assam,” the BJP official said.

Trinamool Congress however alleged that the meeting “had to be cancelled” because the venue ground wasn’t filling up. “It was largely empty and that’s why the BJP had to cancel the meeting,” a Trinamool Congress leader said.
