On the first day of two-day visit to West Bengal, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) president Amit Shah set the target of winning at least 50 per cent seats in the state in the next year’s Lok Sabha elections. He said the central committee won’t accept any lack of effort. Shah also said that BJP leaders must fight tooth and nail in all 42 seats to bag at least 21 seats in Bengal.
During a meeting with the state BJP election committee in Kolkata, Shah asked the leaders to increase their public interaction gradually. Primarily dividing the state into three geographical areas — north Bengal, south Bengal and Rarh Bengal including Jangalmahal — Shah instructed all party leaders to organise rallies regularly with a focus on local as well as national issues. He said state leaders should start the campaigning from the village level.
The BJP president urged all party workers to reach out to people in every part of Bengal along with actively involving themselves into building the party’s organisational structure.

He wanted a detailed report on the party’s organisational status in the state. He also asked leaders to investigate why the party had failed to perform well in certain areas.
