Bank strike of September 26 & 27 called off

The bank strike that had been called on September 26 and 27 has been called of after bank union representatives met Union Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar on Monday. Following their discussion, the unions reported that the government has promised to form a high level committee to look into their demands.

Four bank unions had called for a country-wide bank strike for two consecutive days to protest the merger of 10 public sector banks. The unions also demanded hike in employees’ wages and pensions.
