BJP government’s Hindu extremism leads to terrorism, says Congress leader Digvijaya Singh

Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government of promoting extremism in India, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Friday compared the current government with former Pakistani dictator Zia-ul-Haq. Haq was the sixth president of Pakistan and Pakistan’s longest-serving de-facto head of state.
During an interaction with the media, Singh said religious extremism makes terrorism grow, which is a dangerous trend for the country. The current government was promoting such extremism through so-called Hindutva, he said, adding that the government was acting Haq during whose tenure many terrorist organisations had grown.
Singh said Haq supported various Pakistani militant groups like the Taliban, which actually led to the growth of terrorism in Pakistan. That’s why there were so many incidents of bomb blast reported in Pakistan and more importantly Pakistani people were killing fellow Pakistani citizens, he said.
Citing the example of Afghanistan, Singh said, wherever such an environment of intolerance exists, there will be terrorism.
