Bypolls in three Lok Sabha and seven Assembly seats have started taking place in six states on Thursday. The results will be out on June 26, Sunday.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh, the bypolls are taking place after the resignation of Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, who was elected as MLA in the elections earlier this year. In Rampur, the seat of senior SP leader Azam Khan is being contested. He too was elected MLA in the polls earlier this year. In Sangur of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann vacated the seat after winning the Assembly elections, and subsequently became the chief minister.
Among the seven Assembly seats, one is in Rajinder Nagar of Delhi – vacated by Raghav Chadha of the Aam Admi Party – who became a Rajya Sabha member recently. Bypolls are also being held in Mander of Jharkhand, Atmakur in Andhra Pradesh and Agartala, Town Bordowali, Surma and Jabarajnagar in Tripura.
