CJI Ranjan Gogoi says he might visit J&K to look at conditions there

During a hearing to a petition filed by child rights activist Enakshi Ganguly, the Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi today remarked that he may visit Jammu and Kashmir himself if needed, to inspect the conditions there. Ganguly had moved Supreme Court saying that children between 6-18 years were facing severe difficulties in the area.

During the hearing, Gogoi had said that the matter could be handled by the High Court of J&K, to which Ganguly said that it had become increasingly difficult for common people to approach the High Court there due to the existing restrictions.

The CJI has asked the High Court Chief Justice to submit a report on this. He was then reported saying that if such was really the condition then he might visit the state to see the matter for himself, after getting the report.

After the special status of J&K was scrapped on August 5 this year, the state has been divided into two union territories with parts of the area under an ongoing curfew.
