Chandan Mitra, former Rajya Sabha member and journalist, passed away on Wednesday night. He was 65.
“Since it is already out there; Dad passed away late last night. He had been suffering for a while,” tweeted his son Kushan Mitra. Chandan Mitra was a two-time Rajya Sabha MP. He had recently resigned as printer and publisher of The Pioneer newspaper.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of the former BJP leader. “Shri Chandan Mitra Ji will be remembered for his intellect and insights. He distinguished himself in the world of media as well as politics. Anguished by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” the PM tweeted. Mitra had quit the BJP in 2018 and joined the Trinamool Congress.
