Former footballer PK Banerjee died on Friday afternoon in Kolkata. He was 83.
Banerjee was unwell for past few days and was admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital in Kolkata. He was admitted to the hospital after complaining of respiratory discomfort.
However, due to his age, Banerjee was not responding well to the treatment.
Banerjee was named Indian Footballer of the 20th century by International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS). He was awarded the highest honour of international football, the FIFA Order of Merit in 2004 by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the highest governing body of international football.
