The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress alliance in Jharkhand has crossed the majority mark, totalling 43 seats. The majority mark is 41 in Jharkhand. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that is the ruling party in the state, got 27 seats so far out of the 81 seats in the state.
Elections were conducted in the state in five phases from November 30 to December 20. In the Lok Sabha elections held in May this year, the BJP had won 11 out of the 14 seats from the state.
The result of the state elections in Jharkhand is crucial for the BJP that has recently been out of power in Maharashtra, in which it also lost its ally of over three decades, the Shiv Sena. The party also lost in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to the Congress last year.
