Maharashtra oath-taking: Mamata Banerjee, PM Modi, Amit Shah in guest list

Uddhav Thackeray will be sworn in as the new chief minister of Maharashtra at 6.40 pm on Thursday at Shivaji Park in Dadar, where his party, the Shiv Sena, holds traditional Dussehra every year.

According to Maharashtra leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah will be invited among others to attend the oath-taking ceremony. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee too has been invited, Shiv Sena leaders have said.

Details of the government and the sharing of responsibilities among the allies – Shiv Sena, Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are yet to be clear. There are 43 departments in the Maharashtra government. There are reports of two deputies for the chief minister Uddhav Thackeray – one from the Congress and the other from the NCP.

Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) being outwitted in Maharashtra and the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government formation is an indication of what may unfold in the country in the coming days. “People should not be surprised in the Sena’s suryayaan lands in Delhi,” Raut said.
