The biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi finally has a release date that the producers are hoping they can stick to: May 24. The results of the Lok Sabha are to be announced on May 23. The film’s release is now on hold due to an order of the Election Commission of India. The ECI decision has also been upheld by the Supreme Court.
It was felt by the ECI — following complaints from various political parties — that the film, on the life of Narendra Modi, will affect the level-playing field between different political parties. It is the role of the EC to ensure that the political parties contesting elections are placed on an equal footing and nothing advantageous is allowed to the ruling parties and its leaders.
The film’s producer Sandip Singh said he hoped the film would have a smooth run at the theatres. He went on to add that the film crew respected the law of the country as responsible law-abiding citizens. “We are now releasing our film on May 24. This is the first time a film will be promoted for only four days. I hope nobody has a problem with the film anymore, and everything goes smoothly this time,” Singh said.
Directed by Omung Kumar, the film features Vivek Oberoi in the lead role. Other actors in the film are Boman Irani, Manoj Joshi, Prashant Narayanan, Zarina Wahab, Barkha Sengupta and Darshan Kumaar. Suresh Oberoi and Anand Pandit are co-producers of the film.
